The Retro Outfit – Stirrup Leggings
They are called retro outfit – because they keep coming back. Stirrup leggings are no different than retro apparel. This style of leggings comes and goes – the reason why anybody who has one never dares to throw away her leggings, in anticipation of fashion revival. The come- back of fashion also depends on famous designers. And to them, bringing back stirrup leggings in fashion shows will set new trends.
Leggings are comfortable wear. This is one great reason why they stay and keep coming back. But as fashion changes, the leggings undergo several innovations. One design that evolved from old concepts is the stirrup leggings. The idea of stirrup leggings could have evolved from horse riders. Stirrup leggings are tight on the legs (just like a rider’s pants) and it has a stirrup-like strap at the end of each pant leg. The stirrup, made of flexible or stretchable fabric, is hooked on the arch of the foot.
But today, stirrup leggings are stylist and can be used during any of the four seasons, as long as you know what to wear with them. Some may find it awkward but a clothes stylist can always innovate. Why don’t you be your own stylist and keep those stirrup leggings in your wardrobe all year round.
Reasons why I love stirrup leggings
- I love them for the simple reason that they emphasize my legs. With the stirrups, magic engulfs me because my legs appear elongated giving me imaginary additional height. Yes this can also be done to you. It gives an illusion of a stretch in the length of your legs, making you look tall.
- It is my favorite accessory to my dresses, skirts and tops. I pair the stirrup leggings with different tops, depending on the different occasions and seasons. I wear a mini-skirt or short dress on it during summer. Sleeveless, spaghetti and haltered tops during summer are chic and season-appropriate. During the cold months of winter, they provide extra warmth to my legs. I wear them under a trench coat, and with a scarf and bonnet the color of my stirrup leggings, I could make heads turn in my direction. They are very good for layering to give the body additional heat. Spring and autumn – I wear them with cardigans and long, not so thick, sweaters. Long sleeved tops are also good pairs of the stirrup leggings during the semi-cold weather.
- I love the way they give prominence to my footwear. I love to wear beautiful shoes and sandals. Only the stirrup leggings can provide the highlights to whatever I wear on my feet.
- I give then a thumbs-up sign because I can wear them whatever the season is – be it summer, winter, autumn or spring.
I will always have my stirrup leggings in my closet. I consider them the most versatile yet most practical accessory. And – I want more colors to mix and match with my wardrobe. For me, stirrup leggings are a hit!
